Overcome Obstacles – Achieve Goals

A New Thanksgiving Tradition

It’s hard to fathom that Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  The days, months and years seem  to fly by quicker the older we get.

What are the  traditions that you look forward to every Thanksgiving?

A common tradition at many tables this time of year is to pose the following question to all of the attendees sitting at the Thanksgiving table:

  • What are you thankful for this past year?

How would you answer this question?  There are many wonderful  answers to this question,  many of which relate to one of the following :

  • the people who are close to us,
  • our surroundings,
  •  health and wellness  and/or
  • situations that may or may not have happened since last Thanksgiving.

These are all  positive sentiments that will remain the staple of many thanksgiving celebrations.

This year however, why not also look deep inside yourself  and reflect on the following questions:

  • What positive changes have I made this year?
  • What have I learned about myself that I didn’t know before?  How can I benefit from this knowledge going forward?
  •  How have I grown as a person?
  •  What am I most proud of?

Reflecting on these questions and others of a similar vein are a good way to reflect on our  personal accomplishments and positive attributes.  Too often people focus on what has gone wrong in their lives.   This is a sure fire way to lower self-esteem.

It is important to look upon every experience as an opportunity to learn more about yourself. The lessons you learn can serve as a framework for growth in the coming year.

Be thankful for who you are!

“The quality of your life is really not about what happens to you but rather, how you look at what happens. If you can’t change the things that serve as obstacles, change your attitude and go around them. Love is Light”.  Unknown
